Providence Healthcare

Providence Healthcare is a leader in providing rehabilitation, palliative care, long-term care and community programs in Toronto. The facility is approximately 650,000 ft2 and is home to a continuing care hospital and 288 long-term care residents.

Providence Healthcare and Enerlife Consulting have worked together for over a decade under the Greening Health Care program, establishing energy and water targets for each hospital based on building characteristics and their individual performance levels. Since 2012, Enerlife has worked directly with Providence to help identify, plan, and implement energy efficiency measures with the goal of tackling inefficiencies identified through its metrics and meeting its target. Our team works closely with Providence facility staff to help them act on conservation opportunities, conceptualize measures in order to create scopes of work for contractors and operators, and monitor energy and water performance. Other technical consultants and contractors are brought into discussions throughout the process as required.

This integrated approach to conservation creates the opportunity for stakeholders to provide insight into energy use patterns observed and ultimately in the development of measures and their ongoing sustainability, while providing unique and site-specific training for hospital staff.

As a result of this approach, Providence has been steadily moving toward achieving its performance target, uncovering unexpected capital and operational opportunities for efficiency. In 2015 its industry leading approach was recognized by a Greening Health Care site tour.
