City of Toronto ECDM Plan Profiled at IESO/MaRS Cleantech Event

Feb 21, 2015 | Municipalities, Presentations

On Thursday, February 19, 2015, IESO and MaRS Cleantech co-hosted a day-long conference on “Capturing Energy Savings Using Big Data.” Ian Jarvis was invited to present the City of Toronto’s performance-based approach to creating and implementing their Energy Conservation and Demand Management (ECDM) plan. The innovative approach taken by the City is allowing them to target specific energy savings opportunities, optimize building energy performance, and prioritize capital investment, while meeting reporting requirements under Ontario Regulation 397/11. Ian highlighted the following components of the approach:

  • Individual, building-specific diagnosis to determine potential and highlight opportunities
  • Data-driven, evidence-based rather than engineering assumptions and calculations
  • Direction of integrated implementation resources focused on high-potential buildings and measures
  • Continuous improvement driven by measurement and verification of savings
