Energy Matters Summit 2012 (May 28 – 29)

Ian Jarvis, President of Enerlife Consulting, is chairing the Building Energy Efficiency stream of panels at Energy Matters Summit 2012 bringing together a wide range of stakeholders to present a comprehensive overview of how performance-based conservation is being used to achieve deep, sustainable energy and water use reductions in buildings.

The opening panel provides an overview of evidence-based energy performance assessment over the past decade, from Energy Star and The Living City programs to the CaGBC pilot projects, REALpac 20 by ’15, Race to Reduce and the Ontario Ministry of Education’s province-wide benchmarking of schools. The second panel presents building owners from different sectors exploring how they are successfully applying it. The third panel demonstrates the alignment of government policy, regulations and programming, while the fourth present how leading product and service providers are adapting to the challenges and opportunities of this emerging "new normal."

Energy Matters Summit is Ontario’s leading public sector energy management conference where energy professionals discuss the contemporary energy and environmental topics, leading-edge energy technologies, and network with public and private sector energy professionals. It takes place on May 28 and 29, 2012, at the Toronto Congress Centre.

Ontario’s hospitals can collectively produce around $100,000,000/year in utility cost savings while collecting a similar one-time amount in utility company incentives. Over the next ten years this redirected cash flow can help renew physical infrastructure while freeing up much-needed funds for front-line healthcare services.

Town Hall Challenge: 2010 Top Performers

Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA), today released the top 15 most energy efficient town/city halls in Canada from the Town Hall Challenge, an initiative of the Mayors’ Megawatt Challenge, a program managed since 2003 by TRCA.

"City and town halls are at the heart of every municipality, and should be their flagships of sustainability," said Brian Dundas, Coordinator, Mayors’ Megawatt Challenge Program, Toronto and Region Conservation. "A growing number of municipalities are leading the effort to lower energy use and cut emissions, however there’s still work to be done with several using as much as three times more energy per square foot than other comparable facilities".
